The Spanish harpsichordist, Diego Ares, studied the piano with Aldona Dvarionaitė and Alis Jurgelionis; and the harpsichord with Pilar Cancio, Richard Egarr, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher and Jesper Christensen. The harpsichord maker Joel Katzman the pianist László Gyimesi, the harpsichordists Rafael Puyana and Genoveva Gálvez, and the study of historical recordings have guided his work and his research.
Diego Ares has performed extensively in Spain (Festival de Granada, Quincena Musical Donostiarra, Festival de Santander, Festival de Música Antigua de Barcelona, Festival de Músicas Religiosas y del Mundo de Girona, etc.), France (Festival Cordes Sensibles, Royaumont), Switzerland (with the OCG playing the harpsichord concertos by Manuel de Falla and Frank Martin at Victoria Hall, Sankt Gallen Festival, CIS in Basel, Davos Festival, etc.), Germany (Opening Concert for the exposition “Die Dame mit dem Cembalo” on Wanda Landowska in Berlin, concerts with the ensemble Madrid-Berlin, etc.), The Netherlands (Early Music Festival of Utrecht, a concert tour playing the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) by J.S. Bach), Norway (Oslo Chamber Music Festival), Belgium (Wallonie Festival), and Japan (Tokyo Opera City Hall, Bach Festival 2012 at Sumida Triphony Hall ).
For his first CD, Diego Ares recorded Soler’s Fandango and two harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach with Menorca’s Chamber Orchestra conducted by Farran James (Columna Musica, 2006). His two solo recordings for Pan Classics had been praised by public and critic (“El Diablo vestido de fraile”/harpsichord music by P. Fr. Antonio Soler – Diapason d’Or, recommended by “The Record Geijutsu”; and “Vivi felice” /harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti – Diapason d’Or and Exceptional from Scherzo). His first recording for harmonia mundi, devoted to the discovery of unknown sonatas by Soler preserved in the Morgan Library of New York, has been enthusiastically acclaimed (diapason d’Or, Classica’s Choc, Pianiste’s Maestro, etc).
Diego Ares has been harpsichord, fortepiano and continuo teacher in Trossingen’s Music Hochschule (Germany). |
