The German conductor and organist, Thomas Appel, received piano instruction at the age of 4, and since the age of 12 has been active in choral conducting. He was trained in organ, piano, improvisation and music theory with the Göttingen's composer Martin Aike Almstedt. He studied church music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, choir directing with the director at that time of the boy Knabenchor Hannover, Professor Heinz Hennig - finishing his studies with honour. He has also participated in master-classes with Daniel Roth and Gaston Litaize (Paris) as well as Harald Vogel (Studio für Alte Musik Norden).
Thomas Appel has made broadcast recordings for the NDR and DLF, and concert activity in his homeland and abroad (Holland, France, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Denmark). Since 1995 he is artistic director of the Amberger Oratorienchor. In 1998 he created the Amberger Sinfonieorchester, which he continues to lead. |
