The Nigerian mezzo-soprano, Fatima Uriame Anyekema was born into a non-musical family of Seven. Having started singing at a very young age, she did not receive any formal music train until 2006. Same year, she entered for the MUSON Talent Hunt/Competition where she got to the semi-final stage. She was later invited to join the MUSON choir after the Music Director Mr. Emeka Nwokedi picked interest in her voice. In 2007, she was granted scholarship by Communication Giant MTN to study music for two years at the MUSON School of Music and Conservatory. obtained her Diploma in Voice from MUSON School of Music in Onikan, Lagos (2007-2009). She made best overall result in the 2010 Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) London Grade Singing Examinations. She then worked on improving her opera repertoire to meet and compete with International standard and to celebrate the Contralto voice in Nigeria. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from University of Lagos. She was a finalist at the 2013 edition of Sacred Music International Competition (SMIC) held in Rome, Italy. She has also participated in the 2016 Music Education Expo held in Hammerstein, London, to improve on her teaching skills. She then was a choir director at Church of Assumption, Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos, and a singing teacher at Masha Music Academy, Lekki, Lagos. In 2018, she was awarded full scholarship to enroll for the Master of Sacred Music Programme in vocal performance at University of Notre Dame, Indiana, a private research university, inspired by its Catholic character in the USA. She obtained her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Notre Dame in 2020.
Fatima Anyekema has been Contralto/Mezzo Soloist/Chorus Member at Music Society of Nigeria since October 2006. She has performed sang major alto solos from George Frideric Handel's Messiah; J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), St. John's Passion (BWV 245), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248); W.A. Mozart's Requiem; L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9; Rossini's Tancredi; Georges Bizet's Carmen; Ruth in the Pirates of Penzance and Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Magic Flute, and a host of others. She has served as Music Teacher at Masha Music Academy, Lekki since May 2013, teaching Vocal and Beginners Piano. She serves as Director of Music at Musica Casa Nigereia in Lagos since January 2013, helping young and beginner/aspiring singers find their voice. Presentation of Choral Workshops to choirs to improve on individual and team performances. Mentoring and Musical career counselor.
