The Ansbacher Kammerorchester (Ansbach Chamber Orchestra) first appeared in 1964 under the Church Music Director Otto Meyer. It emerged from the Singverein founded in 1831, which was then expanded into a singing and orchestral society. In 1964, the ensembles separated the choir and orchestra. The orchestra was initially limited to Baroque music. Over time, the ensemble expanded its repertoire also to the music of the 19th and 20th centuries. Gradually, the Ansbacher Kammerorchester became a sought-after partner for orchestral and oratorio concerts far beyond the South German region.
The Ansbacher Kammerorchester is composed of professional musicians, music teachers and amateur musicians. The cast varies depending on the work of the chamber ensemble to the symphonic cast. The orchestra works exclusively with guest conductors. For smaller casts the concert-master is the director.
On February 25, 1978, the Ansbacher Kammerorchester under the direction of Karl-Friedrich Beringer performed for the first time in a concert organized by the "Haus der Volksbildung" (a predecessor of the Ansbach Theater). The series of «Neujahrskonzerte» (New Year's Concerts), which differed from the traditional concerts of the Wiener Philharmoniker, arose from the annually repeated concerts, under changing conductors. The orchestra participates regularly in the Bachwoche Ansbach. |
