The Ankor Children's Choir of the Jerusalem Rubin Conservatory of Music and Dance was founded in 1983 by Amon Meroz who was its conductor until 1990. In 1986 Dafna Ben-Yohanan joined the Choir as Assistant Conductor and voice teacher, and in 1990 she became the choir's Conductor and Artistic Director.
The Ankor Children's Choir's repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary works, with an emphasis on Israeli music. The Ankor Choir has appeared in Israel and abroad, a-cappella and with most Israeli orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Kurt Masur, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Zubin Mehta and others. The choir appeared with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Claudio Abbado, and before President Clinton, Prince Philip of England, the Queen of the Netherlands and the presidents of Germany and Austria during their visits to Israel. The Ankor Choir has participated in competitions in Europe and has won prizes in Switzerland, Germany and Sweden.
