The American harpsichordist and organist, Douglas Amrine, studied harpsichord with Lisa Goode Crawford at Oberlin College Conservatory (Ohio, USA), and both organ and harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. In 1981 he was awarded Second Prize at the Albert Schweitzer International Organ Festival (Deventer, Netherlands).
Douglas Amrine has travelled extensively to become familiar with a wide variety of historical keyboard instruments in museums, churches and private collections, and has given solo recitals on historic organs and harpsichords. He was twice invited by Gustav Leonhardt to perform on the Schonat-Hagerbeer organ of the Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam. He has lived in the USA, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Singapore and Brazil. He has also taught harpsichord at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore.
His first solo recording, "Pro Cembalo Pleno: Bach on the Pedal Harpsichord", contains major organ works such as the Passacaglia BWV 582, Dorian Toccata and Fugue BWV 538, and the Fantasia and Fugue in g minor BWV 542. His second harpsichord recording, "Ciaccona", features his own transcription of the solo violin Ciaccona BWV 1004 among other works. |
