Simone Alex (Counter-tenor)

Born: Germany

The German counter-tenor, Simone Alex won already at 17 the 1st Prize with the VDMK Gesangswettbewerb 1976, and studied thereupon singing with Professor Helmut Kretschmar in Detmold and with Professor Judith Beckmann in Hamburg and participated in master-classes with Birgit Nilsson and Elisabeth Grümmer.

Simone Alex had experienced first theatrical experience in Münster, Detmold, Hamburg and Lüneburg, before he was a member of the RIAS-Kammerchor from 1989 to 1996, and also appeared as a soloist with conductors such as Albrecht, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Barenboim and Claudio Abbado. He has already performed Early music in historical performance practice with René Jacobs and Michael Creed. Together with the conductor Israel Yinon he dedicates himself particularly to the works of Jewish composers, who were murdered during the Holocaust, like Hans Krasa and Victor Ullmann. Simone Alex presented more contemporary music at the Schwetzingen Festival and at the Biennale Venice. In the Stuttgart Bachakademie under Helmuth Rilling he deepened his interpretation abilities in the area of the oratorio. He appeared in Regensburg as a soloist in several concerts of the University Choir: in 1994 in the Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and in 1996 in George Frideric Handel's oratorio Samson.
