The Finnish pianist, Hannu Alasaarela, started to play the piano at the age of 8 with a private teacher, Anna-Maija Kinnunen. At the age of 12 he entered the Oulunsalo Art School, where he studied with Kimmo Pihlajamaa and Jouko Tötterström. In 2014 he entered the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he studied with Tuija Hakkila and Ilmo Ranta. He has also received guidance from Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna, Erik T. Tawaststjerna, Liisa Pohjola, Matti Raekallio and Niklas Pok. His awards include: 1st prize at the National Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition in Oulu (2012); laureate of the Helmi Vesa Piano Competition in Helsinki (2015); final place and a special prize in the Maj Lind Piano Competition (2017); awarded a recognition prize at the Tampere Piano Competition (2017); advanced to the top eight at the Geneva International Piano Competition (2018).
Hannu Alasaarela has performed at various Finnish events in Sweden, the Baltic countries, Germany and Switzerland. He has played as a soloist with the Oulu Symphony, the Helsinki City Orchestra and the Lappeenranta City Orchestra. He also composes. |
