The American church musician, choral conductor and tenor, Lawrence Abernathy, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Study from Columbus State University (2008-2012); and his Masters of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina-Columbia (2013-2015), where he was Graduate Assistant to the Choral Department. Since 2019, he he studies for Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Indiana University, where he is also Choral Scholar at Trinity Episcopal Church Bloomington.
Lawrence Abernathy has served as Director of Music Ministries at Central Christian Disciples of Christ (January 2012-January 2013); Director of Music Ministries at North East United Methodist Church in Columbus, South California (April 2013-2015); Aristic Director of Dutch Fork Choral Society in Chapin, South Carolina (June 2014-2016); Director of Music Ministries at A&M United Methodist Church, located across from Texas A&M University (2015-2019); Associate Instructor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington (since 2019). He was also Conducting Fellow with the Ars Longa Ensemble out of Austin, Texas, and prepared the Brazos Valley Chorale for a performance of Johannes Brahms’ Requiem with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. He participated in Bloomington Bach Cantata Project as both tenor singer and music director (2020-2021).
During his spare time Lawrence Abernathy is also the Senior Editor at Social Paintball.com (since February 2011), serves as a Copy Writer and Marketing Specialist for freelance composer Michael Engelhardt (since May 2014), and sings with the Votive Ensemble, a classical guitar and voice duo, and The Cecilia Ensemble, a professional early music ensemble based out of Augusta, Georgia. |
