This movie has such a ridiculous script and acting that it can be a lot of fun. It is a perfect example of the kind of catholic cinema made in the Spanish post-war period. There's a lot of fun in it, but you need some knowledge of the Spanish scenes of the 1960's (Adolfo Marsillach, José Bódalo, Vicente Parra, etc.) to get the most out of it. You can barely recognize some of these great performers in their early appearance (what is Marsillach doing here, by the way?). It's almost unbelievable. Think of a mix of 'Airport 79' (20+ years before!!) and 'It's a wonderful life', made by a really dull filmmaker. If you're Spanish and like odd movies, this is for you. Look fast for the baptism scene, it's invaluable!!! (jdgc, Spain) |
