Description: |
Probably made in the early 19th century from an engraving. In the Paris collection of André Meyer, whose catalogue (Abbéville, Imprimerie F. Paillart, preface by François Lesure, October 1960), plate 51, publishes it and claims it to be a “portrait in oils Haussmann, 0.53 x 0.43 m. This portrait appears in an engraving by F.N. Netting [sic] as the frontispiece to Über J. S. Bachs Leben, Kunst und Kunstwerke by Forkel. Reproduced, similarly attributed to Haussmann, in Jean-Sébastien Bach. L'oeuvre et la vie. Les Libraires Associés (Paris 1963), p. 136. It is indirectly derived from Haussmann via the engraving B-13 and B-27. B-46 - an almost identical but reversed engraving - would seem to be directly derived from it. |
