The violinist in this paintings travels through the world with his sheet of Bach’s music under his arm. He looks back with agony. The world is not a good place, it is half dark and half light; he has too many memories, but he also has his music. In the background the subway, based on the arches of a bridge over a river, of Berlin leads to a big synagogue which reminds of the one in the Oranienburger Strasse, which was burned down at the beginning of the Second World War. A red, snake like sash (a flame?) leaps from its doors. |
