About the Artist:
Born in 1942. Studied architecture at Darmstadt and direction in Athens (1960-1967). Has made a series of documentaries on cultural subjects. Taught cinematography at the Thessaloniki School of Cinema and Theatre Studies (1969-1976), which he directed from 1975-1976. Obtained honorary scholarships from the Italian government to study opera in Rome (1978) and from the Fulbright Foundation to study visual arts in Chicago, USA (1996).
Has painted the two largest murals in Greece (1989): an outdoor one, at the Lecture Theatre of the Polytechnic School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; and an indoor one, in the Administration Block of the same university.
He directed and designed the opera "The Marriage of Figaro" by W.A. Mozart (State Theatre of Northern Greece, 29th Demetria Festival, 1994). Has given lectures in Greece, the USA and Holland. Has published essays and various studies in literary and art reviews 1987-1999 (Entefktirio, Tram, Pratirio Technis, Paratiritis, etc.). Has illustrated literary and art publications. In 1997 he taught as guest speaker at the Dept. of Art History at the Philosophical School of the Arist. Univ. of Thessaloniki (seminar on "The vicissitudes of the arts and thought during the 19th and 20th centuries").
Since 1964 he has taken part in group exhibitions (Darmstadt Polytechnic, 1964; Salon International de Mai, France, 1974; Contemporary Greek Art, 12th Demetria Festival, Thessaloniki, 1977; Experiment Verein, Stuttgart, 1984-85; Contemporary Greek Art, National Gallery, Athens, 1988; The "Paratiritis" Artists, Vafopoulio Cultural Centre, Thessaloniki, 1990; From Two Dimensions to Space, OMEPO-Macedonian Centre of Modern Art, Zappeion, Athens, 1992; The Thessalonian Artists Collection, "Cultural Month" Festival, Municipal Art Gallery, Nicosia, 1995; Basic Links, Fulbright Foundation, Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre, Athens, Demetria Festival 1998, etc.).
He has staged 35 one-man shows - including 5 retrospectives - in Greece, France, Germany and U.S.A. Six art editions of his work have been published, and a selection of his works are to be found in both public and private collections in Greece and abroad (National Gallery of Greece, Museum of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Telloglion Foundation of Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Art Gallery of Association for Macedonian Studies, Museum of Architecture Chicago, American Center for Physics Maryland etc.).
In 2004 his book (in greek) My own Diotima has been published.
He is a member of various artistic groups, such as the Greek Chamber of Visual Arts and the Artists' Association of Northern Greece.
