A playing card (the King of Hearts) was the inspiration for this painting. Then, in order to reflect his brilliant use of counterpoint, I opted for interweaving lines of colour rather than blocks. Bach was just as comfortable playing an inversion of the melody as he was the melody itself, and you could say he could do it all standing on his head. Quite simply put, when it comes to the Great composers, Bach was king.

About the Artist:
Joe Thompson is a talented painter and jazz musician based in London, UK.
His first love may be the piano but in the last few years he has branched out into the world of painting, creating works with the same flair that he has long demonstrated at the keyboard.
His initial inspirations were perhaps unsurprisingly, musicians. Reflecting his own eclecticism Joe started with paintings of L.v. Beethoven, Bob Marley, Ibrahim Ferrer and like the musician he is, soon found himself taking requests along the way. Recent subjects include Elgar, Sammy Davis Junior and Khachaturian.
Recently Joe has also started offering his smaller 'Miniatures' series. These impressionistic, expressive mini portrait commissions are proving a hit.
