Johann Steffens (Composer)

Born: c1560 - Itzehoe, Germany
Died: Summer 1616 - Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, Germany

The German composer. Johann Stephens [Stephani], was from 1593 organist of the Johanniskirche in Lüneburg, where he remained for 20 years. He wrote German madrigals and dance-songs (2 bks, 1599, 1619), influenced by Hans Leo Hassler, as well as miscellaneous sacred and instrumental pieces.
