Born: March 1, 1613 - Königsberg, Prussia
Died: October 18, 1640 - Dorf Brandenburg am Frischen Haff (today the Russian Uschakowo) |
Georg Mylius was a German poet and evangelical theologian. He was the son of the Königsberg professor Georg Mylius, studied at the university of his hometown, moved to the University of Wittenberg and obtained there in 1637 the academic degree of a master. In 1639 he took a job as a pastor in Dorf Brandenburg am Frischen Haff, where he worked until his death.
As one of the youngest members of the Königsberg poetry circle alongside Christoph Kaldenbach and Jonas Daniel Koschwitz, Georg Mylius moved in the influencing circle of Martin Opitz, Simon Dach and Heinrich Albert. His poems often appeared in separate individual prints, some of which were set to music by Albert Stobäus and Johann Stobäus. He is the author of the death song "Herr, ich denk an jene Zeit" (Lord, I think of that time), which was printed in 1640.
Georg Mylius had married on February 6, 1640 in Königsberg with Anna, the daughter of the Diakons der Domkirche Georg Colbius. The marriage remained childless. |
