Wilhelm Karges (Composer)

Born: 1613 or 1614 - place of birth unknown
Died: November 27, 1699 - Berlin, Germany

Wilhelm Karges was organist and composer of the North German organ school. Very little is known of his early years. He was probably Hofkapellmeister in Stockholm. From 1645 he worked for one year at the Brandenburg court in Königsberg, and later was appointed as Domorganist (cathedral organist) or composer on a permanent basis.

Four or six organ works by Wilhelm Karges are included in Choralbearbeitungen, as well as several free organ works.
