Johann Nicolaus Fabricius (Organ, Bach's Pupil?) |
Born: March 2, 1712 - Wolfis, near Ohrdruf, Thuringia, Germany
Died: unknown (after 1749 - Wolfis, near Ohrdruf, Thuringia, Germany?) |
Johann Nicolaus Fabricius was born the son of Nicolaus Fabricius (Pastor in Wolfis), He studied with the schoolmaster Rast in Wolfis, with "Bach" in Ohrdruf and with Johann Peter Kellner (C-14) in Gräfenroda. He worked as informant in Eberstedt and with Mr. von Wangenheim in Wolfis; from 1749 as organist in Wolfis. Further whereabouts unknown.
According to Brücker (1753), Johann Nicolaus Fabricius learned "die Music […] bey dem Organist Bachen in Ohrdruff" (the music [...] with the organist Bach in Ohrdruff). Following this statement, Löffler called him in 1936 "Schüler Bachs in Ohrdruf" (Bach's pupil in Ohrdruf) and implicitly referred to J.S. Bach. Lessons, however, must have taken place long after J.S. Bach's departure from Ohrdruf and Thuringia and may indeed have been given by the Ohrdruf organist Johann Bernhard Bach (A-9; term 1721-1743).
