The German composer, Johann Georg Conradi, was Kapellmeister at Oettingen in Bavaria towards the end of the 17th century. He was one of the earliest composers of German opera. He was a major figure in the Hamburg opera in the 1690's and he introduced the French operatic style there. He produced successfully at the Hamburg Theatre Ariane (afterwards added to by Reinhard Keiser and reproduced in 1722 as Ariadne), Diogenes, and Numa Pompilius in 1691; Karl der Grosse and Jerusalem (1692); Sigismund, Gensericus, and Pygmalion (1693). A number of manuscript compositions for the church are mentioned in Q.-L. |
