Alfred von Beckerath was a German composer and conductor. From 1920 to 1925 he studied music theory and composition in Frankfurt/Main, Freiburg im Breisgau, as well as in Munich at the Akademie für Tonkunst. Among his teachers were Max Reger and Joseph Haas.
After finishing his studies, Alfred von Beckerath worked as a conductor in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. After end of World War II he worked at the "Theater der Jugend " in Munich. In Mid 1950's he was conductor of the Ingolstädter Stadttheater. He was a very productive composer. His compositions cover mainly symphonies, concerts, cantatas, choral works as well as sonatas and operas. They follow the classical composition models. In 1951 his services were acknowledged by the Musikförderpreis (music promotion prize) of the Munich municipality. |
