History & Mission: |
The Project
The purpose of the Association is to promote German Baroque music to the widest possible audience. This will be achieved in two ways by:
- Performing public concerts. These concerts will take place in churches in Paris which, by virtue of their acoustical features, will enhance the aesthetics of this repertoire. Also, the Bach Collegium Paris intends to perform at Baroque festivals organized throughout the European community.
- Sponsoring annual master-classes for a wide range of amateur musicians. Concerts of the repertoire will be presented at high-schools throughout Paris.
The association
The Bach Collegium Paris is a French Association created in December 2009 in Paris, under statutes established in 1901. Artistic Director Patrizia Metzler and an elected Board of Directors oversee the activities of the Association which consists of a vocal ensemble, instrumentalists, and soloists.
The vocal ensemble is made up of 20-30 singers chosen for their extraordinary skill and desire to perform Baroque music. Soloists are selected from among young professional singers who specialize in the performance of Baroque repertoire. From ten to fifteen professional musicians who play modern copies of Baroque instruments will collaborate with the Association to present choral/orchestral repertoire from the Baroque period.
Musical Work
The Bach Collegium Paris is a project ensemble which will meet at least 3 times a year for sessions of 10-15 rehearsals to prepare a full-length program. These rehearsals will take place in venues and at times that accommodate the performers. |
