Every year, Bruges hosts the Bach Academie Brugge Festival. This major event in baroque music attracts international ensembles, who perform pieces celebrating the genius of J.S. Bach and stage exhibitions, lectures and film screenings on his compositions. |

In collaboration with Philippe Herreweghe and his Collegium Vocale Gent, the Concertgebouw is launching an annual festival for Baroque lovers from all over the world: the Bach Academy Bruges. A whole weekend long, all eyes will be focussed on the oeuvre of this incomparable Baroque master. Concerts by internationally renowned ensembles and soloists, a lecture-performance, films, an exhibition and location projects will ensure a veritable cornucopia of J.S. Bach. But J.S. Bach’s timeless music naturally also points one, almost automatically, to the work of other composers, both before and after the master. In this first edition of the revamped festival, the Festival is taking its J.S. Bach lovers on two excursions. On Saturday morning holders of a weekend pass can go to Damme for a musical tour of Marcel and Francis Ponseele’s oboe-making workshop. And on Sunday morning they will be delving into the Baroque past of Bruges’s Our Lady of the Pottery Church, together with Roel Dieltiens. The inspiring architecture of the Concertgebouw and the historic charm of Bruges provide the perfect backdrop for an intense Bach Academy Bruges. |
