History & Mission: |
The Bach à Bacchus festival was established in 1986 by the pianist Yves Henry with the help of a small group of winegrowers. This festival has remained faithful to its original objective, creating an event which unites music and wines. The 1986 festival gave its roots to the Festival Musical des Grands Crus de Bourgogne, now a major series of concerts in the region. Each of the five areas part of the Festival Musical des Grands Crus de Bourgogne now organises a festival of music and wine events known for its relaxed atmosphere and excellent music.
The Bach à Bacchus festival is based on the exchange of music and wine. Each of the Festival Musical des Grands Crus de Bourgogne concerts highlights the unique architectural appeal of the village or town hosting the festival events. Each is unique, each boasts an artistic style of its own and presents the specific characteristics of the great wines grown in the area.
Each year the Bach à Bacchus festival takes pride of place for 4 days early July in the calendar of Meursault, one of Burgundy’s mythical wine villages. Bach à Bacchus is notable for its classical music concerts in prestigious venues such as the Church of Meursault and in the Château de Meursault, exciting guides tours of Meursault and of the vines in Meursault as well as the wine tasting experiences laid on by the Ecole des Vins de Bourgogne.
Visitors to the festival can take part in a guided tour of Meursault and the vineyards of Meursault to discover the history of the village, the characteristics of Meursault wines, the AOCs the premier crus - all unveiled during the course of a two hour walking tour of Meursault ending with a Meursault wine tasting. |
