The Würzburger Bach-Chor (= Bachchor Würzburg) was founded in 1961 by Günter Jena, Assistant of Karl Richter in Munich. Günter Jena initiated Würzburger Bachtage in 1968, and within a short time made the chorus to a leading sound body of the region. He was succeeded in 1974 Heribert Breuer. Since 1979, Christian Kabitz is Kantor at St. Johannis, director of the Bachchor and artistic director of the Würzburger Bachtage.
The size of the Würzburger Bach-Chor is project-dependent with up to 80 active members and performs around 10 concerts a year and participates in the regular scared services at St. Johannis. In the "Motette"", usually on the first Sunday evening of the month, also the performance also includedsrare works from the Renaissance to contemporarys. At the Würzburger Bachtage, Bach-Chor appears in the two oratorios evenings and the worship celebration. Co-operation with the Cäcilien-Chor Frankfurt, Münchener Bach-Chor or Bachchor Heidelberg complement the concert activity. A German tour with "Rock meets Classic" and numerous opera productions illustrate the great diversity of the choir. Tours to France, Italy, Israel and the USA, as well as radio, television and sound recordings have advertised the choir nationally. |
