The German bass-baritone, Frank Wörner, studied from 1986 at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. From 1988 he studied early music with lute as major subject at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. There he started singing studies with Kurt Widmer. He continued his singing studies from 1993 at the Opera School in Stuttgart with Professor Luisa Bosabalian and Carl Davis (Lieder class of K. Richter).
In addition to his engagements at opera houses in Heidelberg, Brunswick, Trieste, Bologna and Salvador (Brazil), Frank Wörner has and active concert career as an oratorio and Lieder singer, including at the Vienna Festival, Ars Musica Brussels, Musique d'un siècle Geneva, Musiktage Bad Urach. His early interest in contemporary music resulted in being sought-after artist in this challenging area. So he has worked in recent years with Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva, Kammerensemble Berlin, Ensemble Recherche Freiburg, Klangforum Wien and the Ensemble Phoenix Basel, together with conductors such as Emilio Pomárico, Peter Rundel, Marc Foster, Beat Furrer, Pascal Rophé and Peter Hirsch. He has participated in world premieres with works by, inter alia, Beat Furrer, Helmut Lachenmann, Pierluigi Billon, Giacinto Scelsi, Iannis Xenakis, and Edgar Varèse on the programme.
From 2001 Frank Wörner is lecturer for singing at the PH Ludwigsburg, and from 2002 lecturer for singing at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart |
