The German bass, Rolf Wollrad, studied at the Leipziger Musikhochschule and singing at the State Conservatory in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Rolf Wollrad gained his first singing experience in the Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Dresden, was a Bach-Prize winner and in 1964 had his first permanent engagement at the Landesbühne Sachsen. From 1970 he worked as a basso buffo and serious bass as an ensemble member of the Staatsoper Dresden; in 1975 he was appointed Kammersänger. He sang and played equally impressive as Leporello in Don Giovanni, Rocco in Fidelio, Don Bartolo in Barber of Seville, Bett in Zar und Zimmermann, Baculus in Der Wildschütz and Daland Der fliegende Holländer, but also Ollendorf in Der Bettelstudent and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof.
From 1989 Rolf Wollrad was director of opera at the Staatsoper in Dresden and in 2003 became an honorary member. Since then he appears as guest singer, at the Stadttheater Bern and at the Staatsoper Dresden, among others. |
