The Austrian tenor, Andreas Winkler, originates from Innsbruck and was born in Italy. In summer 2001 he graduated from the Musikhochschule Köln where he studied with Professor Hans Sotin, later with Karlheinz Hanser and Jane Thorner-Mengedoth.
Andreas Winkler interpreted many operatic parts all over Europe, Japan and the US with great acclaim. He sang the part of Ferrando in W.A. Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte at the Staatstheater Kassel and the main part in Der Vogelhändler at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe. In 2005 he made his debut at the Schwetzinger Festspiele in the opera Telemaco by Alessandro Scarlatti. In 2006 he sang the part of Pedrillo in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and at Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Italy. In summer 2007 he made his operatic debut in Japan at the Orchard Hall in Tokyo. In 2009 the tenor interpreted the part of Iwan in Der Zarewitsch by Franz Lehar at the Residenz Theater in Munich (Bayrisches Rundfunkorchster, CD Production) and made his USA debut at the Severance Hall in Cleveland under maestro Franz Welser-Möst. He also debuted at the Bayrische Staatsoper in Munich in the production Doktor Faust by Ferruccio Busoni.
In addition to his opera activity Andreas Winkler performs in concert and as an interpreter of the oratorio repertoire where he has made guest appearances at the Crown Hall in Jerusalem, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Kreuzkirche Dresden, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Gewandthaus in Leipzig and the Tonhalle in Zürich.
From 2001 until 2003, Andreas Winkler was member of the ensemble at the Theater für Niedersachsen, where he debuted as Male Chorus in Benjamin Britten’s Rape of Lucretia. In summer 2003 he became a permanent member of the ensemble at Zürich Opera. His well recognized debut was the part of Vasek in Bedrich Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride. In 2010 he sang several parts at the Zürich Opera (Goro in Madama Butterfly, 3rd Jew in Salome, Kilian in Der Freischütz); in the 2010-2011 season appearences in Giullaume Tell and Aus einem Totenhaus are planed. In 2012 he returned to Cleveland to take part in the production of Salome again under maestro Franz Welser-Möst.
Both in opera and concert Andreas Winkler has worked with famous conducters as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski, Franz Welser-Möst, Christoph von Dohnányi, Bernard Haitink, Carlo Rizzi or Nello Santi. He has made opera appearances under such stage directors as Jürgen Flimm, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Matthias Hartmann, Sven-Eric Bechtolf or Martin Kušej.
Further important parts include Valletto in Monteverdi's L`Incoronazione di Poppea, Jaquino in Marc Minkowski’s Fidelio and the part of Camille de Rosillon in Fr. Lehàr’s operetta The Merry Widow.
Some years ago Andreas Winkler made Italian canzoni, tangos, swing and chansons a regular part of his broad repertoire. Due to the success of this program he has made several radio and TV appearances and frequently headlines international festivals and concert venues. He already released two albums: “Canzone d’amore” (2003) and “Bada Bing Bada Boom” (2008). |
