The German soprano, Silke Wenzel, received her first musical training in Munich. Afterwards she continued her singing studies with Monika Lenz in Salzburg. Master-classes followed, for example with Kurt Widmer.
Already early in her career, Silke Wenzel's special affinity for the early music has been crystallised, particularly to the work of J. S. Bach. As interpreter of this music she could be heard in numerous concerts in her homeland and abroad, broadcast and CD recordings. Besides that the Lieder singing forms a major part of her concert activity, particularly the works of Schubert, Wolf and Scandinavian composers. In 1996 she made her opera debut as the Papagena in the Mozart's Zauberflöte and has participated since then regularly in opera productions, including all the big Mozart roles of her voice, such as Despina in Così fan tutte, Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor and Blondchen in Entführung aus dem Serail. As a member of Così Facciamo - Ensemble for Early and New Music she sang in 1999 and 2002 Drusilla in Monteverdi's Poppea, and in 2004 as Coridon in George Frideric Handel's Acis & Galate. |
