The German tenor, Gert Walter, is honorary chairman of the Katholischer Kirchenchor St. Sixtus Zunsweier. In appreciation of his outstanding contributions to "his" Kirchenchor he was awarded an honorary title in 2002.
Gert Walter set up the Kirchenchor since the re-establishment in 1971 and headed it until 2002. From the beginning it was important to him to get high quality of singing and choral work in order to create a good name for the Kirchenchor. He achieved great value with the sociability, unity and harmony in the choir. These were often extended overnight excursion trips. Highlights of his presidency were the awarding of the Palestrina Medal and the plaque in 1983, and a one-week pilgrimage to the Eternal City of Rome in the 1981. In the 31 years of his presidency he saw three presidents (Pastor Ferdinand Straßer, Pastor Heinrich Herp, Pastor Herbert Ebersold) and three choir-masters (Günter Wetzel, Martin Ross, Walter Hefner). Under his leadership, the biannual Sacred Church Concerts on the 1st day of Advent were launched. His initiative was to thank for the well-known artists / groups who have visited Zunsweier (Regensburger Domspatzen, etc.).
Gert Walter is the tenor solo singer of the Kirchenchor. He also takes over solos in surrounding communities. |
