The American tenor, Mallory Elton Walker, studied at the Occidental College in Los Angeles, at the Opera Studio of the Metropolitan Opera New York and with the teachers George Schick and Cornelius Reid.
In 1959 Mallory Walker made his stage debut in Washington as Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress by Igor Stravinsky. He was later characterised as talented lyric tenor and appeared at the opera houses of Cincinnati, Houston (Texas), Miami, Kansas City and San Francisco. Following his successful appearances in America, he came to Europe and was engaged in 1963-1964 at the Staatstheater of Oldenburg, and in 1964-1966 at the Opera House of Köln. He appeared as a guest at the Staatsoper of Stuttgart, as well as at the Festival of Spoleto.
Among Mallory Walker’s gloss roles on the stage ranked W.A. Mozart roles (Tamino, Belmonte, Don Ottavio, Ferrando, Idomeneo), Nadir in Georges Bizet’s Pêcheurs de perles, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Alfredo in La Traviata, Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff, Alwa in Lulu by Alban Berg and the title role in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring. He was a great concert and above all oratorio singer.
