The Brazilian soprano, Manuela Vieira dos Santos, first studied at the Escola de Música in Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) i the class of Professor Veruschka Mainhard and with Eduardo Alvares. She also gained her first stage experience in Brazil and sang the title role in Donizetti's operas Rita, Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Mimì in La Bohème and Hansel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel. After completing her bachelor's degree, she continued her studies in Italy with Renata Scotto. In 2011 she received a solo scholarship from the Internationalen Bachakademie Stuttgart, which brought her to Germany for the first time. She obtained her master's degree at the Opernschule Stuttgart and graduated in 2017 with a stage exam (with Professoe Gundula Schneider) with distinction. Parallel to her studies, she attended master-classes with Margreet Honig, Mark Markham, Klesie Kelly, Falk Struckmann and Mitsuko Shirai, among others. As a scholarship holder of numerous scholarships, she was supported by the Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung, Live Music Now, and the Rotary Foundation-Stuttgart.
Manuela Vieira also sang there the role of Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen, La Contessa Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Massenet's Manon and Mama in Elliott Carter's What Next?. She was also seen in 2015 at the Stadttheater Heilbronn as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, in 2017 at the Balingen Festival as Mimì in La Bohème and in Stuttgart as second lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Her operatic repertoire also includes the roles of Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Liù in Turandot, Lauretta in Gianni Scicchi, Desdemona in Otello, Elvira in I Puritani, Hanna Glawari in Die lustige Witwe and that of Frau Fluth in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor.
In recent years Manuela Vieira has also been able to build up a broad concert repertoire and sang the solo parts of Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream; Felix Mendelssohn's Elias and Lobgesang; Penderecki's Credo, Dvořák's Requiem, Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, as well as numerous J.S. Bach cantantes. She was given the opportunity to work with well-known conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Kay Johannsen and Helmuth Rilling. At the Busan Maru International Festival in South Korea in 2016, she was also given the opportunity to play a solo role in the opera gala. She is also a member of Solistenensemble Stimmkunst (Director: Kay Johannsen). |
