The Siberian soprano, Maria Vasilevskaya, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Art from Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, summa cum laude (2013-2017); and her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music (2017-2019). She is a winner of the 2019 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Buffalo/Toronto District. The same year she received an encouragement award at the Great Lakes Regional Final and an encouragement award at the MONC Minnesota District in 2020. She is the First prize winner of the 2018 Friends of Eastman Opera Competition.
Praised for her “strong and resilient” performance (CITY Newspaper), Maria Vasilevskaya is returning to Palm Beach Opera to cover the role of Kate in Madama Butterfly, participate in a scene performance, and study cover roles of Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Così fan Tutte and Alice in Falstaff. Her previous engagements with Palm Beach Opera include covering the roles of Frasquita in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, where she also performed the First Witch. Other performances include Sylviane in Merry Widow, Hansel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and Rosina in The Barber of Seville.
In summer 2022, Maria Vasilevskaya was one of the participants of Jennifer Rowley's inaugural Aria Bootcamp summer program. She was Des Moines Metro Opera Apprentice Artist in the 2020 & 2021 summer seasons, where she covered the roles of Daphnis in Queen of Spades, and Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and participated in the scenes program.
Maria Vasilevskaya is a Seagle Festival alumna, where she portrayed Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Myrtle Wilson in The Great Gatsby opera, and Madame Branislowsky in MAME. Her other roles include Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Eastman Opera Theatre. There, she also participated in the revival of Ricky Ian Gordon’s opera The Tibetan Book of The Dead working with the composer himself.
Besides operatic performance, Maria Vasilevskaya enjoys performing concert repertoire. Her performances as a soloist include Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, G. Bizet's Carmen Suite, Songs and Dances of Death by Modest Mussorgsky, Kurt Weill’s Die Sieben Todsünden, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, and J.S. Bach's Cantatas with Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman School Symphony Orchestra. She currently lives in Boca Raton, Florida. |
