The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra (= VFCO), which comprises former musicians from the Verbier Festival Orchestra was founded in 2005. The VFCO is the resident chamber orchestra at the Verbier Festival and devotes itself to performing works from the chamber orchestra repertoire.
Since 2006, the Chamber Orchestra has performed every year at the Verbier Festival. Most notably, it provided the accompaniment for Martha Argerich, Renaud Capuçon, Anne Sofie von Otter, Joshua Bell, Yuja Wang and Thomas Quasthoff. The VFCO gave a total of six concerts at the 2010 Verbier Festival, under the Direction of Gábor Takács-Nagy, its Music Director, and others. The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra also performed in the Bellerive Festival, Monte Carlo, Schloss Elmau, Dortmund, Frankfurt and Zürich.
One of VFCO’s first big projects was to perform W.A. Mozart’s Violin Concertos with soloist/conductor Maxim Vengerov. A tour of 22 concerts followed in 2006 through Canada, USA and Europe. The concertos were also recorded by EMI. The VFCO holds an annual residency during the Verbier Festival week at Schloss Elmau, Germany. In early spring 2013, the VFCO toured one week in China with the 8 seasons of Piazzolla and Antonio Vivaldi lead by Kirill Troussov followed by a cruise through Asia with Gabor Takacs-Nagy and soloists Martin Fröst and Joshua Bell. In May 2014, it will tour with David Garrett in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
The two Verbier Festival Orchestras are world leaders in orchestral training and are an essential element of the Verbier Festival’s success. From 2009, the Verbier Festival will ensure the future of these two pre-eminent ensembles of young musicians, thus creating its 6th Pôle d’excellence. |
