The German tenor, Wolfgang Theis and grew up in a working class family. "In my family has never played a major role in music," he remembers. "I discovered the song shortly before graduation my love." This love was so great that he made it his goal to become an opera singer. To achieve this aim, he worked with private singing lessons from his voice. "As a singer, you have a deadly respect for the shooting conditions at a music school. You may already have been discovered as a talent, but at a university you're back one among many," he describes his situation at that time. First he studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and later at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. Already during his studies he took some roles, his first was that of the Jan in Bettelstuden , further he took part in the Oppenheimer Festival
After his training, part-time engaments followed at the Theater in Bielefeld, the Opernstudio in Köln and in Münster and Dresden. In 1991 Wolfgang Theis was the winner of the Westfälischen Musikfestivals. Despite distinctions, he also knows that an opera singer should always evolve.
In August 2002, Wolfgang Theis received the Orpheus Award for young singers at the Bad Hersfeld Oper in der Stiftsruine for his role as Steuermann in Richard Wagner's Fliegendem Holländer. He then moved to Augsburg, where he performed the role of Dr. Caius in Verdi's Falstaff. |
