Rainer Templin (Baritone, Harp)

Born: Viersen, Rhineland, Germany

The German baritone, harpist and music pedagogue, Rainer Templin, even before taking up his studies, sang in 1976 at the Federal Singing Competition in Berlin with a first Prize. At the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf, he then received two courses of study. He concluded with the state singing teacher exam and the other with the artistic maturity examination in harp performance.

Rainer Templin has lived for over 30 years, more than half his life in Düsseldorf, the city where he feels at home and became his hometown. Here he started at the age of 19 years, immediately following his graduation as a teacher of singing and piano as well as a children's choir director at the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule. His extensive concert activity has led him, already during his studies, to many tours around the globe. So he sang e.g. in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and performed as harpist with the Philharmonia Hungarica at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Parallel to his work as an active musician, Rainer Templin built his stable and successful teaching at the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule. Many of his singing students received first prizes at competitions, and today teach singing at music colleges or are engaged in German opera houses. His commitment to the singing of the young musicians was reflected in his appointment to various commissions at the federal level and in his long tenure (1996-2000) as a board member of the German Association of Singing Teachers (BDG = Bundesverbandes Deutscher Gesangpädagogen). Since 2009, he is a board member of the Assiociation of Harpists in Germany (VDH = Verband Der Harfenisten in Deutschland).

Since 1990, Rainer Templin directs at the vocal range of the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule, the Preparatory Department of Education and also other special projects such as at the annual Clara-Schumann-Musikschule book tour on the Königsallee. For this engagement he was honored in 1999 by the Association of Booksellers Düsseldorf (Düsseldorfer Buchhändler) with the golden bookend. Since 2001, he directs the UHU-Orchester der Clara-Schumann-Musikschule, with whom he has performed many of his arrangements.
