Rita Tavares (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Portugal

The Portuguese mezzo-soprano, Rita Morão Tavares, obtained her degree in singing from the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, where she studied in the singing class of Professor Sílvia Mateus. She is currently studying with Manuela de Sá.

Rita Tavares is a member of the Coro Gulbenkian and the Officium Ensemble and works regularly with the Chamber Choir of Europe and the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Director: Peter Dijkstra).

As a soloist, Rita Tavares performed Francisco Lima's Te Deum with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass with the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Benjamin Britten's Canticle Abraham and Isaac and Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites with the Sinfónica Portuguesa at the Teatro Nacional do São Carlos (Irmã Saint-Charles). Still as a soloist, she participated in the world premiere of Cantos Sefardins by Fernando Lopes-Graça with pianist José Eduardo Martins, in São Paulo, Brazil.
