The Japanese soprano, Yumiko Tanimura, carried out her musical studies at the Kyoto University of Arts where she obtained the first prize. Then in October 2001, she entered in improvement cycle into the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) studying with professor Gerda Hartman. Holder of a scholarship of the Musical Patronage Société Générale, Yumiko Tanimura received the Grand Prix at the singing competition Pierre Bernac at the Ravel Academy of Saint-Jean-de-Luz in 2000, the 2nd prize at the International Singing Competition of Osaka in September 2003, and the prize of the International Competition of Song-Piano Nadia and Lili Boulanger in November 2003.
Yumiko Tanimura sang the role of Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Juliette in The little Sweep by Benjamin Britten, the first fairy in The Fairy Queen by Purcell at the Rouen’s Opera. She gave recital at the Reims Festival, in the Orangerie de Sceaux (accompanied by the pianist Jacques Rouvier), at the Deauville Festival. In 2003, she sang in the City of Music Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy by Maurice Ohana conducted by Jean-Claude Pennetier and took part in his production of the Liebeslieder by Johannes Brahms at the Theater of Chartres. She also performed at the Folles Journées de Nantes with the Sinfonia Varsovia conducted by Michel Corboz. In June, she was the soloist of The Creation by Haydn at the Opera of Massy conducted by Dominique Rouitz. She also sang in Switzerland as soloist in Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach and the Messiah by George Frideric Handel conducted by Michel Corboz. Beginning of 2005, she took part in a big tour in Japan with this great conductor. At the end of April, she sang the Erigone Virgin in the production of the Martyr of St Sebastien by Debussy in Athens (Greek Creation, production by Genevieve Page). At the beginning of November, she was one of soloists in Mozart’s Requiem in Lisbon, also conducted by Michel Corboz of whom she became one of his favourite soloists. |
