Ed Suttle (Bass-Baritone)

Born: November 3, 1963 - Sydney, New South Wales, England

The Australian bass-baritone, Ed Suttle, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, English Literature, Islamic Civilisation from Durham University (1974-1977). He started singing at a tender age at a small private school in England. He has sung first bass (although occasionally masquerading as a second bass and even a tenor) with the Sydney Chamber Choir since 2003 and is the choir’s regular bass/baritone soloist.

d Suttle has presented recitals in Sydney, Goulburn, and the UK. He has also sung in the Opera Australia chorus, and with Sydney Philharmonia Motet, Contemporary Singers, Cantillation, Australian Brandenburg Choir, Parsons Affayre, St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, and probably others.

Endangered Productions is always delighted to have Ed Suttle, a Company regular, in a performance. He was Dr Colas in their production of W.A. Mozart’s Bastien & Bastienne and the Father in J.S. Bach's Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht - also known as the Coffee Cantata BWV 211 (2021). In their 2022 major production Peer Gynt he played Solveig’s father, a Thief, a Troll, and the Scavenger. In 2023's It's So Last Century he played a party guest, a bridge player, a peasant and a mule man.

When not singing Ed Suttle ran his own Executive Search business for 25 years, and he retired in early 2017. He now runs a 230-acre Angus cattle property outside Goulburn with wife Jane, heads a group building Australia’s largest community-owned solar farm, and was Chair of the board of the Hume Conservatorium of Music (March 2019-August 2023). Over the years he has developed a stiff upper lip and a very thick skin; physical attributes gained as a result of a lifetime supporting England cricket. He currently lives in Goulburn, New South Wales.
