The American soprano and actor, Julia Suriano, studied at Smith Academy in Hatfield, Massachusetts. She moved to Nyew York City to study Vocal Performance - Voice and Opera at Mannes College The New School for Music (2009-2011); and obtained her Bachelor of Music Degree in classical voice performance from Manhattan School of Music (2011-2015). During her studies there she worked as Voice Department Chair Assistant (since August 2013).
A two-time ASCAP award winner for “excellence and promise in musical theater”, Julia Suriano has been praised by critics for her “chillingly beautiful” voice starring as Maria in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story both at the award-winning Fireside Theatre in Wisconsin (August-October 2015) and New Hampshire’s Interlakes Theatre. Reviews said, “Her voice is flawless, her acting, too. I doubt anyone could find a more perfect casting.” (Rock River Times) and “The shining light of this production is the incomparable Julia Suriano… Suriano’s portrayal of Maria is not to be missed as she is hands down one of the best vocalists Interlakes Theatre has ever had.” (Onstage.com)
In addition to acting, Julia Suriano has performed as a soprano singer in various concerts in the ensemble with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall, including under the baton of Alan Gilbert in L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and Bramwell in Gustav Holst's Planets. She has performed as a Soprano Scholar at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine (January 2013-May 2014), and as a soloist for Manhattan School of Music Chamber Chorale in J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232), under the direction of Kent Tritle (February 2014). Other regional credits include Cosette in Les Miserables with Red Mountain Theatre Company Birmingham, Alabama (May-July 2014) and most recently she returned to Interlakes Theatre to take on the role of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady! (June-July 2015). She currently lives in New York City and works in Sales/Marketing at Kate Spade New York. |
