The German soprano, Sigrid Stumme, was a private student of Agnes Giebel in Cologne. Like many other oratorio singers she never studied at a conservatory or Musikhochschule.
Sigrid Stumme has performed publicly since her 17th year of age in Kiel. She became a teacher and freelance oratorio singer, member of the Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart for many years and has been engaged by many conductors mainly in northern Germany as a soloist, especially for performances of J.S. Bach, Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, L.v. Beethoven etc.; almost exclusively for sacred music. She has been living in Hannover since the 1970's and retired from performing as a soloist a few years ago. |
