The Swiss musical director and recorder player, Maurice Steger, studied recorder and ancient music with Pedro Memelsdorff and Kees Boeke and conducting with Marcus Creed. After his studies, he won several international competitions and prizes, including the highly decorated Karajan Prize 2002, for his musical activities.
Maurice Steger is a one of the most influential and popular soloists of his generation. He is a frequent guest soloist with leading Baroque ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Musica Antiqua Köln, The English Concert, Europa Galante, Accademia Bizantina or I Barocchisti. He also regularly appears with modern symphony orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Barock Solisten, Musikkollegium Winterthur and Zürcher Kammerorchester, also in the role as conductor.
Maurice Steger has performed with celebrated artists such as Thomas Quasthoff, Dorothea Röschmann, Hilary Hahn, Laurence Cummings, Rainer Kussmaul, Igor Oistrakh, Marcus Creed, Jörg Faerber, Fabio Biondi, Sandrine Piau, Andrew Manze, Sol Gabetta and Diego Fasolis, Albrecht Mayer and Ruth Ziesak. In recital he is regularly accompanied by Naoki Kitaya and the Continuo Consort, by Markus Märkl, Alexander Weimann and by Sergio Ciomei.
His project Tino Flautino, a musical fairy-tale for children, has enjoyed great success and is also available on CD (Philips). In addition Maurice Steger has recorded several albums, many of which have been crowned with international awards (Diapason d’or, choc du monde de la musique, Fono Forum, Repertoire 10, Grammy Award selection, Amadeus, 10/10 Classics Today and many others).
