Márta Stefanik (Soprano)

Born: Hungary

The Hungarian soprano, Márta Stefanik, began studying music at the elementary school, and as a child was acquainted with the high quality of choral singing. In addition, she studied playing the flute. Then she went to Debrecen to stduy at the msic faculty of Ady Endre Gimnázium, where she could get a taste of singing on stage.She attended the secondary school in parallel with the Kodály Zoltán Szakközépiskola magánének szakát (Zoltán Kodály Secondary School of Singing Department). After graduating in TV, radio and journalism area, she attended the Kölcsey Ferenc Tanítóképző Főiskolán (Kölcsey Teacher Training College), obtaining the first degree, majoring in communications. She studied singing professionally at the Miskolci Egyetem Bartók Béla Zeneművészeti Intézetében kapta (University of Miskolc, Béla Bartók Music Institute) and the Debreceni Egyetem Zeneművészeti karán (University of Debrecen, Faculty of Music), and obtained her Master of Music degree majoring in Lieder and oratorio.

Márta Stefanik was a member of the Debreceni Kodály Kórus for 11 years, and took part in many opera productions of choir of the Csokonai Színház (Csokonai) Theatre. In 2007, she made her debut as a soloist in the role of Esmeralda in Smetana's The Bartered Bride. In 2008 she sang the roiles of Ciboletta and Barbara in Johann Strauss's operetta A Night in Venice. She was a member of the Debrecen Canto Armonico ensemble for two years. Since 2008, she works regularly with György Vashegyi and Purcell Choir, where she could get a taste of the early music repertoire and high-quality performance mode. Currently she is a member of the Hungarian State Opera Choir. She is also a member of CantuS CorvinuS Vocal Ensemble (Director: Géza Klembala).

Awards: International Operetta Competition Special Prize (Komárno, 2004) Choral Art title of the Year (2007, Debrecen), Season young singer award (Debrecen, 2010), George Gulyas Award (Debrecen, 2012), Critics' Award (Debrecen, 2013)
