Irmgard Stadler (Soprano)

Born: March 28, 1937 (or 1941) - Michaelbeuren, Salzburg, Austria

The Austrian soprano, Irmgard Stadler, studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as at the Wiener Musikakademie.

In 1962, Irmgard Stadler made her debut at the Staatsoper of Stuttgart as Micaela in Carmen,. She had since a great career in this opera house for over thirty years. She worked here e.g. in the world premiere of the opera Das Mädchen aus Domrémy by Giselher Klebe (June 19, 1976). With guest appearances she earned an international reputation, she sang at the Salzburg Festival in 1961-1962, Sicle (a small role) in Idomeneo by Mozart, in 1962-1963 concerts (Mozart’s Requiem). Great success she had at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1967 in L'Ormindo by Cavalli, in 1969 as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, in 1970 as Giunone (Juno) La Calisto by Cavalli, in 1972 as the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss. In addition to frequent guest appearances at the Wiener Staatsoper, she was appeared as a a guest at the Staatsoper of Munich, Deutschen Opernhaus Berlin, Teatro San Carlos Lisbon, Teatro Fenice in Venice, Teatro Comunale of Bologna and in Rome. In addition to the aforementioned roles, she sang on stage roles such as Eva in Meistersinger, Elsa in Lohengrin, Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, the title role in Janácek’s Jenufa, Marie (Marenka) in Smetana's The Bartered Bride, Marina in Boris Godunov, the Marschallin and Ocatavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Marie in Wozzeck by Alban Berg (1983, Stuttgart), Rusalka, Katya Kabonova, Lisa in Pique Dame. Tatiana, Fiordiligi, Alice, and Marina. In 1990, she appeared in Stuttgart with the premiere of the contemporary opera Satayagraha by Philip Glass. In 1993 she sang Annina in La Traviata, in 1995 the Mother in Hänsel und Gretel. Even in 1999, she was heard at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in the role of the Governess in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame. On November 17, 2000, she appeared there in the premiere of the opera Giuseppe e Sylvia by Adriana Hölszky (as Theresa).

Irmgard Stadler had very great success in the concert hall, especially as an oratorio singer and especially as Bach and Mozart interpreter.
