The Israeli lyric soprano, Elinor Sohn, completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in 2008. She obtained her Master of Music degree from the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) as a student of Patricia McCaffrey (2008-2010). She is the recipient of many scholarships and awards including the Prestigious 1st Prize of the Silverman Award in 2010 and in 2011 and the Faye Harbour Award in 2012. Additional awards include the Viva Virginia award, the Opera Theater Award of Brooklyn College Music Conservatory, 2nd Prize at the IVAI International Singers Competition, 1st Prize at the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (Study abroad scholarship), excellence award of the Ronen Fundation (2011-2012) and first place at the Karl-Edler wettbewerb in Germany (2012).
Elinor Sohn regularly sings in all over the world. At the Stuttgart Staatsoper her roles are: Pamina, Zerlina, Echo (Strauss), Blummenmaedchen (Wagner), Eurydice (Gluck), 4th Magd (Elektra by R. Strauss), Feklusha (Katja Kabanova by Janacek), Souckova (Osud by Janacek) and Ida (Johann Strauss), And covers roles such as Alcina (George Frideric Handel), Agathe (Weber), Clorinda (Rossini), 3rd Norn (Wagner). In November 2011, she had made her much acclaimed Israeli debut with the role of Fiordiligi (W.A. Mozart) with the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem, and recently returned from a very successful tour with the Israel Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, where she sang the lead Soprano roles in L.v. Elinor Sohn had performed the roles of Angelica (Puccini) Erste Dame and Countess (W.A. Mozart), Eurydice (Gluck), Fox (Janacek), Fraarte (G.F. Handel), Dido (Purcell) and others. Regularly attending the IVAI summer opera festival, she performed with great success the roles of Yivette (La Rondine by Puccini), Ilia (Idomeneo by W.A. Mozart), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni by W.A. Mozart), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss), and Alcina (G.F. Handel).
Elinor Sohn has gained experience in the Art Song and concert field with recitals in New York, Canada, Germany and Israel, and had her German concert debut at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart with Spohr's Sechs Deutsche Lieder in Februar 2012. Among her most acclaimed performances in the concert field are W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, W.A. Mozart’s C Minor Mass, Coronation Mass, and Missa Brevis with the Tel-Aviv Chamber Orchestra.
Future engagements include, amongst others, a Gala concert at the Stuttgart Staatsoper, Gustav Mahler´s 5th Symphony and Hyden´s Die Schöpfung. She currently lives in Stuttgart, Germany. |
