The American lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano, Nandani Maria Sinha (Nani Sinha), was born in the USA of German and Indian descent, and relocated to Germany where she received formal training in voice and piano. She obtaiuned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Wells College (2003); her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance cum laude from Cornell University; and her Master of Music degree from California State University at Los Angeles (2011), where she was honored as a CSULA Friend of Music Scholar and elected as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honors Society.
Nandani Maria Sinha was the first-prize winner in the 2012 Franz Liszt International Competition, and in 2014 she earned two additional International Prizes from the same organization, including a special award for “Best Vocal Interpretation of a Work by Franz Liszt.” She premiered a newly discovered work by Franz Liszt, performing this beautiful composition again at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. She was a winner of the Hollywood Opera Reading Club Vocal Scholarship Competition and has been a recipient of scholarships from the Opera Buffs and Celestial Opera.
Nandani Maria Sinha is an internationally acclaimed singer, known for her passionate performances and great presence. She has been a frequent soloist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, and a recitalist in London, France, Austria and Germany, where she was honored to sing for the Millennium Festival of Music in Bad Arolsen. Additionally, she has presented recitals throughout South Africa for the No. 1 Ladies’ Opera Festival in 2013.
A favorite performer in Southern California, Nandani Maria Sinha has performed with such organizations as the Los Angeles Opera, Long Beach Opera, Celestial Opera, Malibu Coast Chamber Opera, Westwood Madrigals, Viklarbo Chamber Ensemble, Malibu Coast Madrigals, Westwood Master Choir, Malibu Friends of Music, the Kairos Musical Soirees, SPaCE Salon Los Angeles, Malibu Performing Arts Society, and Redlands Symphony, among many others. Most recently, she was the alto soloist for L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the San Bernadino Symphony Orchestra and performed the role of The Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Malibu Coast Chamber Opera at Pepperdine’s Center for the Arts, to critical and audience acclaim. This season, she makes her debut with Opera Santa Barbara as La maestra della novizie in Suor Angelica, as well as performances as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with Marina del Rey Concerts and Mrs. Ott in Susannah with Opera Pasadena. Performances in 2015 included the roles of Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus with Repertory Opera Company.
A great proponent of new music, Nandani Maria Sinha has presented multiple world premiere performances by Annenberg Foundation Composition Fellow Maria Newman, including a world premiere on September 11, 2014 of a work entitled, Parting Words. She recorded Newman’s large-scale song cycle, A Trail of Years, for the Montgomery Arts House Masterworks Recordings label in the Spring of 2015. In 2013 and 2014, she was a Marc and Eva Stern Fellow at Songfest, where she worked closely with William Bolcom, John Musto, Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, Susan Mentzer, Margo Garrett, and Martin Katz. |
