The brilliant Korean soprano, Youngok Shin, studierd with Ellen Faull. She was a winner of the Met's 1990 National Council Auditions.
Youngok Shin has been heard at the Metropolitan Opera in New-York as Azema in Semiramide (for her 1990 debut), Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Oscar in Un ballo in Maschera, and Elvira in I Puritani, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda in Rigoletto, Adina in L'elisir d'Amore (with Luciano Pavarotti) and Oscar in Un ballo in maschera (also with Pavarotti). She has also appeared as Sandrina in W.A. Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera in Paris, with Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and in concert with José Carreras in South Korea.
Youngok Shin has recently sung the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor in Detroit, Amina in La Sonnambula at Paris' Opéra-Comique, and Igor Stravinsky's Le Rossignol at the Cincinnati May Festival. Other notable engagements include Oscar at Paris' Bastille Opera, Gilda at Covent Garden, Despina in W.A. Mozart's Cosí fan tutte with the Köln Opera, Leila in Les Pêcheurs de Perles at Barcelona's Liceu, Elvira with the Nice Opera, and the Princess in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges at the New York City Opera.
On the concert stage, Youngok Shin has appeared as featured soloist in a concert of W.A. Mozart arias for the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, in gala concerts in Singapore and Seoul with José Carreras, and in recital in New York at Alice Tully Hall and elsewhere.
Youngok Shin is not only Korea's proud prima donna, but is a soprano who represents the world. Although she currently plays an active part on the world stage, her hometown's fall and childhood memories are deeply imbedded in her inner heart. |
