The American tenor and teacher, Sammy G. Scifres, received a Bachelor of Music degree from Hardin-Simmons University, completed a Master of Arts for Teachers degree from Colorado State University, and was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Sammy Scifres currently serves as chair of the voice department at Illinois Wesleyan University. Since coming to Illinois Wesleyan in 1967, he has taught studio voice, diction for singers, vocal pedagogy, elementary conducting, vocal techniques, music appreciation, and has conducted the Women's Chorus and Chapel Choir.
Sammy Scifres has been a soloist in Texas, Colorado, Iowa, and Illinois. He is a frequent solo and ensemble adjudicator and guest choral conductor and clinician in Illinois and Florida. Long active in music education and church music in Illinois, Texas, and Colorado, he has done considerable research on the physical and mental aspects of singing, and he has given workshops on the techniques of singing. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. |
