The Austrian bass-baritone, Michael J. Schwendinger, had his first solo appearances as a boy soprano with the Wiener Sängerknaben. In addition to numerous international concerts, he worked in various opera productions in the population and with the Vienna Staatsoper. He graduated from the Musikgymnasium in Feldkirch, began his training as a bass-baritone at the Landeskonservatorium of Vorarlberg with Professor I. Doboszy and continued his studies with Peter-Lampeitl Cavall.
Following that, Michael Schwendinger began to study high-school teaching in Feldkirch PA and graduated in the fields of music, mathematics and history with honors. He taught at the MHS Lingenau and simultaneously started his singing career, before he finally decided to do make singing his main job. He then studied at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität with Lucia Meschwitz and Michael Pinkerton and received his degree in opera. He took lessons with E. Obrowsky, A. Hornig, and C. Schwarz. For several years he worked musically with Christian Koch.
Michael Schwendinger feels at home on the operatic stage as well as in the concert hall and the church. Therefore, his varied repertoire ranges from Gregorian to contemporary music. So he opened a concert as a Kantor at the Musikverein in Nikolaus Harnoncourt, sings regularly at numerous masses and church concerts at home and abroad and with well-known ensembles such as Clemencic Consort, Accentus Austria or Neue Oper Wien. He has sung, among other things, under Adam Fischer, Christian Thielemann, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Kristjan Järvi, Conrad Artmüller, Walter Kobera, René Clemencic and worked with directors like Ulrich Rasche, Nicola Raab, Alexander Kubelka, Gerhard Ernst, Anselm Lipgens and Stephanie Mohr:
