The Dutch mezzo-soprano, Yvonne Schiffelers, completed her training at the Pedagogische Academie in her native town of Heerlen, then studied at the Maastrichts Conservatorium with Mya Besselink. Even before she completed her studies cum laude, she was engaged by the Opera of Cologne and appeared as a guest at State Theater of Aachen.
From 1987 to 1994 Yvonne Schiffelers had a permanent engagement at the National Theater Mannheim. She could expand there her repertoire with all the major roles for her voice (including Octavian, Dorabella, Composer, Charlotte, Orfeo, etc.) to more than 50 roles. During this period she also appeared as a guest at the important German Opera Houses (Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Hannover, etc.)
Meanwhile Yvonne Schiffelers performed as a soloist on the concert stage with works by J.S. Bach to Luciano Berio. She appeared at home and abroad with renowned orchestras and conductors. She also participated in several radio and TV recordings. In Germany and Austria, she was very successful as a Gustav Mahler interpreter, and her original Lieder recitals received laudatory reviews everywhere. She was asked to perform at European festivals, sang in South America and made a tour of Israel with the winner of the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels.
In 1995 Yvonne Schiffelers started to work as freelance. This allowed her to accept invitations for concert appearances and of opera companies in Amsterdam, Helsinki, Berlin, Cologne and Nagoya (Japan).
