The German bass-baritone, Christoph Scheeben, studied music education with piano major in Cologne and then singing in London with Diane Forlano at the Royal Academy of Music. Other important musical and vocal impulses he has received from Anthony Rolfe-Johnson, Reiner Goldberg and Barbara Pearson.
As a sought after concert and opera soloist Christoph Scheeben has performed with with artists such as Ingeborg Danz, Christoph Prégardien, Emmanuel Pahud, Janine Jansen, Stefan Litwin and Éric Le Sage. He worked together with conductors including Dennis Russel Davies, Gustav Kuhn and Jan Latthan Koenig.
Christopher Scheeben is especially devoted to the Lieder of Johannes Brahms, Strauss, Eissler and Charles Ives. In this area he has a long collaboration with his pianist Stewart Emerson. Recitals have taken him to the Berlin Konzerthaus and the Philharmonie in Cologne, among other respected venues. His repertoire includes the great oratorios and Passions of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras as well as 20th Century works. He passes his knowledge on questions of vocal technique and interpretation through masster-classes and as a lecturer at the Folkwang Musikhochschule in Essen.
Christoph Scheeben is praised by critics for his classy, highly nuanced voice, and for his musically intelligent performances. As a baritone with enormous vocal range he recently performed the heroic tenor in Wagner's operas Das Rheingold (Loge) and Walküre (Siegmund). |
